Living near beaches and water bodies is good for mental health. People who reside near to rivers, lakes, seas are said to have a better mental and psychological health.

People who live nearer to a beach are 40 percent less likely to suffer from any mental illness. As per researchers, living near to 'blue spaces' or massive water bodies like lake, river, sea, ocean is found to better psychological health of the residents.

Aquatic environments are oftentimes linked to health benefits as this helps to calm the mind with their peaceful and unpolluted surroundings. People who reside near to such big water bodies tend to live a longer, physically active, stress-free life with minimal health issues.

"This kind of research into blue health is vital to convincing governments to protect, create and encourage the use of coastal spaces," Mathew White, environmental psychologist, University of Exeter told. "We need to help policymakers understand how to maximize the well-being benefits of 'blue' spaces in towns and cities and ensure that access is fair and inclusive for everyone, while not damaging our fragile coastal environments", he added.

In order to find a solution to this, researchers claimed that people should spend more time at beaches to improve their mental wellness and reduce the chances of mental decline. Around 26,000 people were studied to find if water bodies can help in the prevention of mental disorders. Although this research was conducted in the United Kingdom, it is true for all the countries. It is necessary to take a break from your sedentary lifestyle and spend some time close to nature, especially mountains and beaches to bring mental peace.
