Pregnancy is all about discomfort in moving and performing daily activities. Adding to the discomfort is constipation, which is common in women when pregnant

Various studies confirm that constipation affects about half of all women at some point during their pregnancy.  Stress, lack of physical exercise and foods containing low fibre are some factors that, in general, trigger constipation.  But, constipation in pregnant women occurs due to the pressure of the expanding uterus on the intestines. When the intestinal muscle relaxes, it slows down the movement of food and waste in the system.  Then consider the role of prenatal vitamins full of iron deficient in some pregnant women.  Iron can cause constipation and hard black stools.

Constipation in Pregnancy is Common

Constipation during pregnancy can mainly be uncomfortable.  In the second and third trimesters, it could become a bigger problem due to the pressure exerted by the growing uterus.  Add to this, the prenatal vitamins and one can only imagine what happens. The chances of constipation during pregnancy are more in women who have experienced it previously.  The risk gets enhanced if mother-to-be has a predisposition to it.
