Other than Black Friday, Amazon Prime Day is the most highly anticipated shopping event of the year—and this year's Prime Day is coming up fast. While Amazon hasn't officially announced the date yet, an email leaked last week leading some to speculate it will be Monday, July 15, 2019. Last year's Amazon Prime Day was Monday, July 16, 2018, and the deals continued for several days after the official 36-hour sale. So what does this mean for you? Here's everything we know:

What is Amazon Prime Day, exactly?

Amazon Prime Day started five years ago and is Amazon's biggest shopping event for Prime members. The deals include more than 100 million products such as electronics, household items, apparel, skincare, cosmetics, and toys. The sale usually lasts for 36 hours and is rumored to start at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT on Monday, July 15. Some Amazon retailers may extend their deals until midday Wednesday, July 17, as they did last year.

Amazon hasn't yet announced which deals will take place on Prime Day, but you can expect Amazon bestsellers to go on sale, including the Echo, Instant Pot, and Mellani's cooling bed sheets. Be sure to look out for sales on these top-rated ODODOS high-waist yoga leggings and the Baebody Eye Gel, which has more than 14,000 nearly perfect Amazon customer reviews.

We will continue to update you with the latest information about deals and discounts as it becomes available.

What does it mean to be an Amazon Prime member?

Amazon Prime Day is for Amazon Prime members only. Being an Amazon Prime member means you get free delivery and unlimited 2-day, same-day, or 2-hour shipping delivery for select items and areas. Amazon Prime members also receive exclusive deals and discounts before other customers, including 30-minute early access to lightning deals.

Good news for newborn parents: Families save up to 20 percent on diapers and baby food subscriptions. Plus, members get deals from Whole Foods Market and Prime Now, which allows members to purchase groceries, household items, electronics and even restaurant delivery in some select cities.

What's more, an Amazon Prime membership allows you to stream movies and TV shows available on Prime Video, create playlists on Amazon Music, and read books, magazines, and comics on Prime Reading.

An Amazon Prime membership costs $119 per year—that's $12.99 per month. If you're interested in streaming movies and TV shows only, a Prime Video membership is $8.99 per month. So if you'd like to take part in Amazon Prime Day, remember to sign up a day before the sales start.
